The underlying figures are public-domain SEC filings, so the compiled table is free to download and free to republish. Two formats, one row per company, every row carrying the filing it came from.

What is in the file

One row per company in the catalogue, for the most recent fiscal year that has been filed. Money columns are in US dollars — figures reported in another currency are converted at European Central Bank reference rates, and the reporting currency is kept in its own column so you can go back to the original. Margins are decimals, not percentages: 0.24 means 24%.

Every row carries the accession number and a direct link to the SEC filing the figures were read from, plus the URL of the company's page here. The year-by-year history is not in this file — it is on each company page, where each year links to its own filing. A history export may follow if people ask for one.

One column is worth reading before you use the revenue figures. A small number of companies — exchanges, brokers and some banks — file a revenue line that is not comparable with everyone else's, either because it is the gross value of transactions they merely handle or because the tag holds only part of their income. Those companies are marked, and they are left out of the revenue and margin rankings on this site for the same reason.

Licence and attribution

The financial data is published by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and is in the public domain: it may be copied and redistributed without permission. The compilation — the selection, the currency conversion, the scale corrections and the slugs — is ours, and we ask only that you credit CompaniesRanked and link back when you republish it. That is a request, not a licence condition.

If you find a figure that disagrees with the filing it links to, tell us. A data set that nobody checks is a data set nobody should trust.
