For banks and brokers, cash and equivalents includes reserves held at central banks and balances funded by customer deposits. It is cash on the balance sheet, but it is not a corporate cash reserve in the sense an industrial company's is — the two are not comparable, even though both are reported under the same line.

NRG Energy (NRG) tops the list with $4.7B in cash for fiscal 2025, ahead of Constellation Energy ($3.6B) and NextEra Energy ($2.8B). The top 10 together report $23.7B in cash; the gap between #1 and #10 is ×3.41. 100 companies in Utilities report cash, 3.5% of the 2832-filer universe. The last place on the list, Oge Energy, comes in at $200,000.
